Intern Spotlight: Riley Henegar

Wild Basin

Major: Environmental Science and Policy with a focus in Sociology.

About Riley: Riley loves to spend time outdoors hiking, biking, and swimming. Her favorite Austin spot is the Barton Creek Greenbelt. She is an animal lover, avid concert goer, and collector of state quarters.

Current Internship: Riley is currently the environmental education intern at Wild Basin. Through the duration of the summer Riley's internship is also going towards class credit at St. Edward's University. Riley's work at Wild Basin has focused on helping guide hikers with signage, learning about guided hikes, and helping with the butterfly garden.

Future Plans: Riley's immediate future plans are to graduate in May 2018! After graduation Riley hopes to move out of Texas and gain some experience working for state of national parks in the Pacific North- West. Riley is also considering applying to the Peace Corps.

Other Internships and Experience: Riley previously interned for Colorado River Alliance, a non-profit environmental group dedicated to protecting and preserving the Texas Colorado River through education and outreach. In this position Riley worked with 2nd- 5th grade students and taught water science including topics like watersheds, the importance of dams, the water cycle, and conservation tactics. She also taught proper gardening techniques and

Hours 
Trails are open everyday, sunrise to sundown. 
The Visitor Center is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

 

Special Notes: Bikes, pets, swimming, smoking, and picnics are all prohibited at Wild Basin.
