Naturalist Neighbors is a new series of live and on-demand webinars about how to use your yard to create a beautiful, sustainable, and safe landscape for you while enhancing the ecology of the increasingly developed area around Wild Basin and the Westlake area.
Those who live within about 5 miles of Wild Basin and attend 3 webinars will be eligible for a free one-hour consultation – either in-person or Zoom, with the Preserve Manager at Wild Basin. You will get an analysis of your own specific “habitat” and get recommendations on how to improve the sustainability of your landscape. If there is enough participation, we hope to create a volunteer group of neighbors to work to help each other achieve some of these goals.
April 2021: Native Plants to the Rescue!
Live: Tuesday, April 20th from 2-3pm
Grow your knowledge and landscape to create a sanctuary for yourself and the beneficial creatures that live in and around our area. Native plants are resilient to drought and harsh weather (read: snowpocalypse) as well as beautiful, low-maintenance, and cost-effective. Join us for this installment of Naturalist Neighbors to learn the benefits of landscaping using native Texas plants and meet some of our favorites at Barton Creek Nursery. Learn why some non-native plants you have in your yard may be harmful to wildlife and local ecology, and how to recognize them in your landscape and when plant shopping.
Register for the live Zoom presentation by emailing slake1@stedwards.edu. The on-demand version will be available on our website (www.wildbasin.org) and links provided on social media the week after the live presentation.
